History
The School of Architecture, College of Engineering and Pusan National University were established in 1953 in order to provide education of professional, technical personnel through the development of local colleges of engineering. As of it’s opening date, it was the sixth in the entire nation of Korea, after Seoul National University in 1946, Hanyang University in 1949, Chonnam National University, Chunggu University, and Chungnam National University in 1952. The name of the school at the time of opening was 'Civil and Architecture Engineering'. The first 40 freshmen were recruited in 1952. The first graduates were 12 students in 1958. In the same year, a Master's degree program was offered for the first time followed by in 1961 the opening of a Ph.D. course. In 1963, the 'Civil and Architecture Engineering' department was divided into two departments, one of architectural engineering and one of civil engineering. As a single department with it’s own operating system, the architectural engineering department has continued to develop, and recently was reorganized to a 5-year interdisciplinary.
Meanwhile, in 2004, the '50th Anniversary Symposium (Theme: Ocean Capital and Architecture in Busan) was held as a commemoration of the past era of growth and development, and the prospects of future horizons. Such an academic event has been held more frequently since the reorganization to the five-year interdisciplinary. It is dedicated to its role as the Mecca of the academic scientific research field that provides information to relevant industries or government agencies, as well as affecting architectural education. In addition, by establishing and running cooperative systems with various national and regional construction companies, it has been conducting joint research and exchange of field practices, as well as performing student internships.
Along with two assistants and a clerk, there are eight full-time faculty members in the major of architecture plans and theory, architecture history, building environment and services, working in order to enter prestigious Universities in the world with great effort.
